Maltese Poodle

Is a Maltese Poodle a Good Pet for Me?

The Maltese Poodle is a small dog that is very loved due to the features it presents. They have fur that is wavy and the overall appearance of it can vary for each dog. Many people love to get them groomed, to dress them up in outfits, and to put bows in the hair of the females. While you may really want one based on what you have seen so far, you really need to take some time to determine if this is a good pet for you or not.

The Maltese Poodle is a hybrid mix of the two separate breeds which are the Maltese and the Poodle. They are recognized by the American Kennel Association. Full grown they won’t be more than 9 pounds. Their hair does grow very fast so you need to be willing to take them in for regular grooming or to learn to perform the process at home.

They don’t shed hair though which is another reason why many people do like them. It can be frustrating when your home is full of hair that a dog has left behind. For those that have allergies, the Maltese Poodle is hypoallergenic. Therefore it can be a good match in a household where other breeds of dogs could create health problems.

They are intelligent animals that are also very curious about their surroundings. Most owners love the outgoing personalities that these small breeds of dogs exhibit. Of course the specific personality of any one of them will vary just like it does for humans.

Before you get such a dog you should spend time with one that you like the physical appearance of. By spending time interacting with it characteristics of his or her personality will start to emerge. That will give you an inside look as to whether you think you would be compatible with such a dog or not.

Since the Maltese Poodle is so intelligent they are very easy to train. This can help to reduce the burden when it comes to house breaking them. This type of dog doesn’t do well living outdoors so you must be willing to share your home with the dog. You can even train them to perform a variety of tricks.

Since this is a small dog you have to ask yourself if your home is safe. Serious injuries can occur if the Maltese Poodle gets stepped on or falls from high places. Survey your home and decide if you can meet the demands of caring for such a dog. If you have lots of people in your home it can prove to be difficult to keep the dog from being under foot.

They tend to do well around children, and they do need lots of attention. This breed of dog doesn’t do well being left alone for long periods of time. They crave social interactions. When a Maltese Poodle is bored or lonely it may whine or bark continuously. If you don’t have lots of time to give this pet attention then it isn’t going to be a good match for you at this point in time.

The novelty of a Maltese Poodle can wear of quickly. Some people see their favorite celebrities with them and want one. This includes Jessica Simpson and Ashley Tidsdale. Before you bring one home you need to carefully evaluate all the different factors. While there is no question that they are amazing dogs, ownership of one of them simply isn’t a good match for everyone out there. Make sure you carefully evaluate the situation before you make the commitment to care for one.
